You’re wondering why you should dock in Obříství? For example: a good meal, a bit of culture, a little adrenaline, or simply because your legs are like jelly and your stomach needs a stable regime.
How do things work around here?
Reservations? Not necessary. But don’t expect to dock your boat here without giving notice. The pier belongs to the municipality, but it is usually occupied by the cruise ship Fidelio – which arrives here only a few times a week during the season. Otherwise, empty. If you want to be sure, give the captain a call and check the schedule. Are you lucky enough to moor? Excellent! So just quickly pull in, moor, and head for shore. Just a heads-up! No service, no electricity, no waste. This is just a stopover, not a port of dreams.
Appearances can be deceiving
On the map, Obříství looks like just another ordinary village along the route that you’d pass through without stopping. But that’s where you’re wrong. Beneath the surface of the ordinary, there are a few surprises bubbling away that are worth mooring.
Na kmíně bistro, for example – a renowned spot where cuisine fragrant with caraway meets a family-friendly atmosphere. Plus, they’ll even let you sleep there. Ideal if even your duvet is swaying after sailing. And if you’re looking for a sweet treat, Domeček u Sikorekis the place to go. Ice cream just like grandma used to make, but without having to put on a sweater.
How about a little culture? Sure. Bedřich Smetana and Svatopluk Čech used to come here to find inspiration. Today there are statues and plaques here, and Bedřich even has hisown hall. Note: Open only on weekends. You can’t actually go inside the local château, but from the outside, it provides a beautiful backdrop to the village, along with the church and its wooden bell tower. This photo will really stand out in your album.
The best for last
And then it happens: wakesurfing. A sport that tries to turn the calm Elbe River into an ocean. Everywhere you look, it’s all about lifts, ropes, and being towed behind a boat… But Wakesurf Obříství has an ace up its sleeve – the Malibu boat. Together, they’ll sweep you away on a wave straight out of a Hawaiian dream. On a snowboard, on skis, with a smile, or even screaming.
No rope, no leaning on the machine. Just you, your board, and an endless wave that won’t stop until someone takes their foot off the gas. This is simply surfing the Czech way– and it works damn well. Gather your crew, load up the Malibu – which can carry up to 12 people – and show everyone that you can do more than just splash around in the waves.
