Escape from the stress of everyday life in the electrifying environment of the open air museum Elektroskanzen Čechův mlýn. Where else can you observe newts, beavers, black storks, herons and other animals and plants in their natural and unspoiled environment? Only in a novel, really.
Be inspired by the place that the writer Ota Pavel loved, breathe in the air that carries a scent all year round. From a paddleboard you will enjoy this experience the best, and the most.

Paddleboarding on the Berounka
Paddleboarding is great fun at any age. When you paddle, you strengthen your whole body – legs, arms and especially your torso, including muscles you don’t even know you have. Whether standing or sitting, paddle all the way to the Elektorskanzen Čechův mlýn. Here you will learn all about electricity and its origins. Shall we have a little history lesson?
The old roller mill with two water wheels has not been preserved in its original form. It was repeatedly swept away by floods, and in 1911 it was engulfed in flames. The whole building, which is pierced by a rock on one side and water flowing through it on the other, was reconstructed in the classicist style. Any idea what that means? You just have to go check it out. This whole area is currently used as a residential complex. So you can stay there right away. A museum has been created in the former mill, where you can see old machines and information panels. The small hydroelectric power plant in Šlovice has become a true museum of the beginnings of the electric age in the Czech Republic and on 3 November 2009 the whole area, including the technological equipment, was declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. And that’s saying something!
You can also spend a nice overnight in Čechův mlýn. They have 3 apartments, 1 cottage and 1 maringot. And what about food? Go to the Berounka Hotel, which is about 800 metres away, or make a stop at the beer shop in Šlovice.
Explore all of the Beroun region
A classic way is a hike to Skryje along the green marked trail along the Berounka River. Cross the bridge over the Berounka River and take the yellow trail to the ruins of Týřov Castle. The same route will take you back to the bridge, and you will continue along the blue nature trail Following the Footsteps of the Trilobite to the village square of Skryje. The blue-marked trail will take you as far as to the lakes Skryjská jezírka.
Did you bring your cyclo-horse with you? Pedal along the 0045 cycle route along the Berounka River to Křivoklát. The total length of the trip in one direction is about 20 km. On your way back go to the Velká Buková lookout tower, Nezabudice and Hřebečník and you will have lock, stock and barrel.
You’d rather stay by the water? Ride 15 km down the Berounka River to Roztoky near the Křivoklát camp in the Višňová – Hájek camp site. From here you have a great starting point for a trip to Křivoklát. The trail will lead you through Paraplíčko lookout point, along the nature trail to the medieval castle. On the way you will meet the monument of Charles Egon II. Fürstenberg, where you will get one of the best views of Křivoklát.
