Board the Blanice cruise ship in Poděbrady and let yourself drift on the waves of the Elbe. You will sail to the neighbouring royal town of Nymburk. On the way you will pass a lock and a First Republic hydroelectric power station, which is one of the oldest of its kind on the Elbe.
Set sail from the royal city into the floodplain forests
The boat trip aboard the Blanice is a really great experience! If you set off from Poděbrady, you will already be enchanted by the view of the château rising above the river from the wharf. As soon as the boat leaves you can see the busy cycle path between Poděbrady and Nymburk on both sides of the Elbe surrounded by forests and fields. The little church you are passing on your left is dedicated to St. Wenceslas, yours to find in the village of Kovanice.
Nymburk on the horizon!
When the boat arrives in Nymburk you are immediately drawn to the sight of a small hydroelectric power station towering over the surrounding landscape. Behind it, the city walls, St. Aegidius and the beautiful Art Nouveau water tower, which complements the panorama of the Elbe region. Blanice is moored right under the medieval walls, the city centre is just a few steps away. Take advantage of this and go exploring!
Enjoy the view of the preserved medieval walls in style. Maybe with a dewy glass of beer in your hand. The Nymburk brewery uses the name Postřižinské pivo as a trademark, referring to probably the most famous work of Bohumil Hrabal.
Poděbrady, our favourite place
Did you sail the opposite way and arrive from Nymburk to Poděbrady? Never mind! Poděbrady never disappoints, not even only as an excursion boat port. Explore this spa town and tune into the wave of summer relaxation. The town, where the famous Czech king Jiří of Poděbrady was born, clearly has its own spa and a well-groomed spa colonnade with the famous flower clock, mineral springs and Poděbradka, crispy spa wafers and plenty of cultural opportunities.
PS: Poděbradka tastes best directly from Svatojánský Spring. So taste it!
