Water everywhere, just like in a fairy tale, with a hint of retro camping and modern pastimes in the air, plus an unexpectedly satisfying dose of pizza, sunshine, and relaxation. The Orlík Water Reservoir invites you to a summer triathlon: Trhovky, Bor, and Popelíky. Each beach has its own appeal – some are great for walking and relaxing, while others are perfect for dining. Three different beaches, three different experiences. So choose what you want to put through the wringer first: your legs, your butt, or your stomach?
Šlapej – Trhovky: A beach for the active and eternally restless
It’s bustling here. The beach at the Trhovky camp-ground is a mix of sunbathing, splashing around, and active fun. You’ll probably end up laying your towel out on the rocks or a boulder; the entrance to the water is a bit steep, but the view of the boats makes up for it. When you get tired of just splashing around in the water, you can rent a pedal boat or a paddleboard, or take your adventure to the next level at Trhovky Surf Point, where they’ll get you up on a wave on a wakesurf board or even tow you behind a boat on water skis.
For a classic meal, head to the Restaurant Na Téčku. This place has plenty of space, ice cream, cocktails, and pizza straight from the oven.
Parking: There is an entrance fee to the camp-ground, but if you’re planning a day trip, it’s worth it. You can’t park right by the water, but it’s an easy walk.
Roll around – Bor: Relax in a green nook
If you really want to stretch out, relax, and get away from it all for a while, Bor is the place for you. The beach here is mostly grassy with a sandy shoreline; the water is beautifully clear, and the view of the surrounding greenery is almost like an Instagram filter – everything looks just a little bit better. Perfect for families with children or people who just want to relax with a book while dipping their toes in the water.
Head out from the camp-ground for a meal and grab a classic meal at Na Téčku. How is that possible? Trhovky and Bor are, in fact, close neighbours. If you ever get tired of just lying around, head over to Trhovky for some wakesurfing.
Parking: There’s free parking in front of the camp-ground, so no tricky manoeuvres or empty wallet.
Eat – Popelíky: A hungry triple jump into the water
People don’t go to the lake with a schnitzel wrapped in foil. This is where the crusts get nibbled. The beach in Popelíky is grassy with a sandy shoreline; it is located in a cove and offers a direct view of the concrete dam of the Orlík Water Reservoir. That might sound like a bad advertisement, but it has its own charm of industrial romanticism.
But things really pick up once you get to the Sweet Monkey beach bar. Here you’ll find pizza, pancakes, hot dogs, cocktails, sodas, and slushies. They also rent out lounge chairs, paddleboards, and inflatable attractions.
You can grab another meal at the camp-ground’s self-service bar, but let’s be honest, Sweet Monkey always beats it anyway.
Parking: There is an entrance fee for the camp-ground, but you’ll find a few parking spots right by the dam. Plus, there’s a bus that runs here from Příbram, so you can get here even without a car
